Dear Boogie Woogie-Piano fans,
summer is coming close, time for special concert experiences!
Already on June 12th, there’ll be an Axel Zwingenberger solo concert at the Dixiebahnhof (Dixie train station) at Dresden-Weixdorf, always a treat in historic train ambience. The next day, Axel will perform with dear colleagues at the Boogie night at Brunn am Gebirge near Vienna.
A special highlight among Axel Zwingenberger’s railway-related concerts is his bi-annual concert at the railway museum Heizhaus in Strasshof, near Vienna. On June 27th, he’ll enter the locomotive hall there with his stage wagon and thrill the audience with hot Boogie Woogie!
Several concerts will follow in Germany: at the Nica Jazzclub in Hamburg on June 30th, at Langenberg on July 10th in a Boogie session with Joerg Hegemann, at Uelzen on July 12th (solo), and at Quickborn near Hamburg on July 25th at the Quickjazz festival.
At Bruchhausen-Vilsen (near Bremen), the 60th anniversary of the first museum railway in Germany will be celebrated a. o. with a concert by Axel on July 29th at the Altes Gaswerk (old gas power station), close to the railway museum‘s workshop. That’ll be followed by a solo concert at Kuehlungsborn on July 31st.
In between the Germany dates, there’ll be solo concerts at Balterswil, Switzerland at the Heaven Music Club on July 3rd, and at Semmering, Austria, at the Kultursommer Semmering festival on August 7th.
This year, the annual „Hamburg Boogie Woogie Connection“ at the „Fabrik“ will not be held on the traditional August 8th date, but will be staged on Saturday, August 22nd at the Fabrik. Please take a note! Among the illustrus international guests will be Mark Braun from U.S.A., Ladyva from Switzerland, Luca Filastro from Italy, Daniel Ecklbauer and Christoph Steinbach from Austria, Henning Pertiet from Verden (Germany), and together with his fellow-pioneer of Boogie Woogie, Martin Pyrker from Wels in Austria, Axel will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary „Boogie Woogie Session ´76 live in Vienna“, which launched the Boogie Woogie Renaissance in the 1970s. Moreover, several surprise guests will participate – it’ll be a rousing night!
Don’t forget: the pre-sale for the 10th anniversary tour „Four Pianists – One Concert“ with Sebastian Knauer, Martin Tingvall, Joja Wendt and Axel Zwingenberger in the fall of 2026 is in full swing! Great venues are on the list: Wiesbaden, Kurhaus on August 28th, Berlin, Admiralspalast on September 4th, two concerts at Hamburg‘s Elbphilharmonie on September 6th (both already sold out!), Muenster, Halle Muensterland on September 12th, Stuttgart, Theaterhaus on September 16th, Rostock, Stadthalle on September 25th, Muenchen, Isarphilharmonie am Gasteig, on October 6th, Erfurt, Alte Oper on October 11th, and Baden Baden, Festspielhaus, on October 28th. CD / LP Boogie Woogie Dimensions
Axel Zwingenberger & Joja Wendt
Vagabond VRCD 8.25043 / VRLP 8.25143
Two great concert grand pianos, fuelled by the eight-to-the bar beat of Boogie Woogie: you’ll hear new dimensions of joy of playing, improvisational spirit and friendly duels at the keys, which make it impossible to sit still!
Two piano legends are passing balls musically in a congenial way: Axel Zwingenberger, THE international institution of Boogie Woogie, and Joja Wendt, the comprehensively brilliant keyboard virtuoso with deep roots in this wild, driving as well as deeply emotional world of expression, which is born from the Blues.
With „Boogie Woogie Dimensions“, Axel and Joja have set a monument of their joint passion. All tunes, most of them originals, which were spontaneously created during the recordings, are marked by their exceptional, stylish inventiveness. By this, the joy of life is awakened in perfect harmony from tender, lyrical Blues sounds up to furious musical chases on 88 keys in double formation.
There are no technical tricks, double bottoms or correctional delusion: all tunes are recorded as you hear them on CD and LP, without cuts, overdubbing or directional influences. Just as authentical, as the great pioneers of Blues and Boogie Woogie have always done it. Axel Zwingenberger and Joja Wendt convey new shine to this fascinating musical world.
Indulge in „Boogie Woogie Dimensions“: swinging joy is guaranteed!
